ENVIRONMENT & ACTIVITIES
Between Geneva and Annecy

The neighboring Switzerland opens its doors to you. After a visit of Geneva take the scenic road along the lake with views on the Mont Blanc and the vineyards of the Vaud. Stop in lovely Nyon, Lausanne, Montreux and the castle of ‘Chillon’. Continue to drive along the lake and you arrive back in France where you should take time to stroll through Evian. If you have an extra day to spend you can drive to the Swiss village of Gruyère. The small village is as nice as its famous cheese is good and you can enjoy an authentic Fondue meal.

On the French side of the lake, medieval Yvoire is part of the group of villages awarded with the label ‘most beautiful villages’ of France. Only a 50 minute drive from the hotel this little jewel right on the lake is a must to see.
Without a doubt Annecy would carry the same label if it would be only a village. Here you can stroll around the magnificent old town, along the canals or the park along the lake with a fabulous view onto the mountains.
During Summer don’t forget your swim suits – the lakes of Geneva and Annecy invite you for a swim or a tour by boat!

Stopover on your walk from Geneva to Santiago de Compostelle

If you are walking the well-known pilgrim’s path of Saint-Jacques-des-Compostella between Geneva and Le Puy-en-Velay, Hotel Rey is a perfect first halt. Thanks to our ‘Pilgrim package’ including room, dinner, breakfast and a lunch package for the next day you can enjoy a well deserved break in between your walks. You are walking by yourself, in a small group, with a donkey or horse, by bike – we ensure you will leave well rested for the next stop in Chaumont, Frangy or further on. Of course we will also stamp your pilgrim’s pass.

Activities within the hotel

During summer enjoy the outdoor swimming pool (June until beginning of September), the tennis court, table tennis and 'terrain de boules' or simply  relax with a good book in one of the sun chairs in the garden.

You can take a little walk to ‘La Ferme des Mottets’, also called the farm of Santa Claus or to the little neighbor village of Charly with its picturesque little church.

The Col of Mont Sion is also the home of (French) Santa Claus. His house is only a few steps away and can be visited during school holidays and between mid October until February. No matter what age you are you will be delighted to visit this magic place – the workshop where gifts are crafted, the kitchen of Santa Claus and his helpers, his bedroom, the garden and the stable with the real reindeers, the post office where the kids can leave a letter for Santa Claus.
During the Christmas season take advantage of our special Santa Claus package. See ‘Special offers’.

End of May Santa Claus leaves the stage for knights, lords and ladies of the castle, fairies and other medieval creatures. During 2 weekends you can visit the mill forest where you will get transformed in to the middle age!

Leisure Activities
Guide touristique de la région environnante.

Discover the Area

The house of the Salève, 2 km from the hotel, tells the story of the people, their history, the activities and the geology of this pre-alp mountain adored by the local population.

Take the time to explore the green valleys where the various ‘AOC’ cheeses are made – Abondance, Reblochon, Beaufort. A must is of course a visit of the mythical Chamonix where you can take the old train up to the legendary ‘La Mer de Glace’, one of the glaciers of the Mont Blanc. In good weather take one of the highest cable cars in the world up to the ‘Aiguille du Midi’ to admire the highest mountain of Europe in a close up.

Take a walk on the ‘high plateau of Glières’, visit the abbey of Hautecombe or the impressive gorges the river Fier is floating through near Annecy.

Only 25km from the hotel the old town of Annecy welcomes you to its small cobble paved streets along the canals with many restaurants and cafés.  Walk along the park along the lake or take a boat and enjoy the wonderful view onto the Alps. Events like the ‘Venetian Carnival’, the ‘Fête du Lac’ in August or the ‘Retour des Alpages’ in October (the return of the cows from the mountain pastures) are extra highlights in the year.

Things to do and see

What’s on close to the hotel? Vitam Parc – a water and wellness park, fitness center and shopping gallery. Don’t forget your swim suits! The Casino of Saint-Julien-en-Genevois, the nightclub Macumba, the Gaumont cinema complex in Archamps or the more intimate cinema ‘Rouge et Noir’ are close by for your entertainment.
